The Racing Week That Was 9/3/16

Thursday, Clonmel was abandoned we start at Taunton. The 2 miles 3 furlongs handicap hurdle went to Tornado in Milan who made all the running holding off Impulsive American. The novices handicap chase to Vazaro Delafayette who landed a few nice bets (7/4 to 10/11) . On the Road won the handicap hurdle won by 19 lengths for Evan Williams. At Ludlow the Fobra Gold cup went in very impressive style to Top Wood who made nearly all to win by 16 Lengths. Dolores Delightful won the mares handicap hurdle winning by 8 lengths.

Friday, we start at Doncaster. Briery Queen won the mares handicap in good style. The novice chase went to Presenting Arms who has had a good season for Harry Fry. I think Presenting Arms has a good future as a chaser. The Conditional Jockeys Novices hurdle went to Shrewd who got the better of Swansea Mile by 8 Lengths. At Newbury the novice hurdle went to Hell's Kitchen for Harry Fry , he looks a good prospect and was well on top at the line beating the odds on chance Walking in the air. The 2 mile Handicap chase went to Ut majeur aulmes who won by a neck from Walk in The Mill, festive affair ran well in fourth. Get Involved won the 3 mile handicap hurdle in brave fashion geetting back up on the run in to beat Theatre Goer. At Dundalk there was a pair of victories for two UK powerhouse yards. Watersmeet won for Mark Johnston.  Bear faced was a winner for Sir Mark Prescott.

Saturday, we start at Doncaster. Upsilon Bleu won the 2 miles handicap chase getting the better of the admirable Pearls Legend. Sugar Baron despite an awkward head carriage won the 3 mile handicap hurdle getting the better of Zeroshadesofgrey. The Mares novice hurdle went to The Organist who won readily from Briery Belle. The Grimthorpe chase was won in spectacular fashion by The Last Samuri who bolted up by 10 lengths., The Last Samuri is now favourite for the Grand National. I think he has an outstanding chance. The victory of The Last Samuri was good news for our members who were advised a 3pt win at 11/4. The meeting at Kelso was abandoned which was a shame ,however the card will be re-staged on March 13th.

The card at Newbury was decent one. The veterans hurdle went to Howaboutnever he was fortunate in my view as Rock Gone would surely have won but for falling at the second last. The veterans chase went to Shotavodka who bolted up by 11 lengths. The Greatwood Hurdle went in impressive style to Gala Ball winning by 7 lengths. The Greatwood Gold cup has been a Paul Nicholls benefit for some years, this years renewal was no exception. The race was won in great style by Sametegal who travelled superbly through the contest. Bennys Mist ran well in second, this horse will be of interest back over the Aintree fences in April. The card at Stratford was a weak one , the win of Bodega in the handicap chase was noteworthy Bodega deserved his turn. At Gowran, Haymount landed some nice bets (11/4 to 13/8) to take the Maiden Hurdle For Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh. Marasonnien won the hunters chase for Willie Mullins and Katie Walsh beating Salsify who would have hated the ground.

Sunday, we start at Naas. The listed novice hurdle looked a decent race. The race went to the bottom weight Sutton Place who completely bolted up here by 7 lengths. This horse looks a real chaser, however this was a superb performance. Gurteen who has form closely linked with Gurteen was well beaten in fourth, this may give Min Cheltenham backers food for thought. The Grade 3 Novice chase went to Sub Lieutenant ,who did it well getting the better of Tell Us More. I think Tell Us More looks a soft horse , I was left with the impression Tell Us More wiill not live up to his early expectation. I think he is one to avoid going forward. The Leinster national was the feature it went in very good style to Venetian De Mai who got the better of Goonyella who ran a good trial for Aintree. Venetian De Mai will now head for the Irish National, Venetian De Mai also boosted the form of Noble Endeavor who looks to have a great chance in the four miler at Cheltenham.

In the UK ,Sedgefield saw a good performance in the 3 miles 2 furlongs handicap from Auldthunder who is a very good stayer , he will continue to pay his way in these sort of races. At Huntingdon, Richard Johnson had yet another double with Champagne Chaser and Fields Of Glory who were also a double for Tim Vaughan. The other trainer who had a double was Venetia Williams with Centurius and Rocky Bender.

Monday, we start at Lingfield who got a jumps card on which was great for the course. The novice hurdle went to Overtown Express who won the novices hurdles who bolted up here he looks a real chaser in the making. Overtown Express looks a very nice horse. The card at Southwell who also hosted a jumps card.  The novice hurdle went to Final Nudge who won well jumping superbly in the process. These results were good for our members who were advised a (3pt double)  Overtown Express & Final Nudge , yielding a profit of 8 points on the day. Touch Back won the handicap hurdle by 16 lengths he can win in this grade again.

Tuesday, we start at Newcastle the display of the day went to Streets of Promise who was backing up the recent Towcester win . Streets of Promise ran out a convincing winner by 22 lengths. The card at Exeter , the 2 miles 7 furlongs handicap hurdle went Speredek  landed some nice bets ( 7/1 to 4/1)  who got the better of Precious Ground in a great tussle.  You Say What won the novice hurdle in good style the fav ,Whataknight looked not to handle the softer ground. The mares novice hurdle went to Eardisland who got the better of Rene's Girl who was trying to give the winner 12 pounds. Rene's Girl still looks a decent horse.

Wednesday, we start at Catterick. The 2 miles 3 furlongs handicap chase went to Roxyfet who won his third race since February 25th. The 3 miles handicap hurdle went to Shinnoki who followed up his recent easy Southwell win. The novices handicap chase went to Discoverie who bolted up by 13 lengths , it was good news for our members who were advised a 2 pt win at 7/2. There was a 25% rule 4 but you could live with that as the sp was 11/8. There was nothing of real interest at Fontwell. The Champion Hurdle saw Annie Power and Lil Rockerfeller supplemented for the Champion Hurdle.
