Monday was a bank holiday. We start at The Curragh, the Tetrach Stakes had a decent field. The race went in very impressive fashion to Awtaad who went away in good style by 2 lengths from Blue De Vega. Embrian ran a good race , however Round Two was very disappointing. The Mooresbridge stakes saw an intriguing clash between Found and Fascinating Rock. The race went to Found who had to wait for a gap to appear, when it did she went through quickening away smartly to when by just over a length from Success Days. Fascinating Rock ran a fair race in thirds , he will surely come on for the run. At Warwick there was a double for Dan Skelton. The first leg was Herons Heir who won the Novices handicap chase. Herons Heir jumped really fluent , he can go on from here. Old Pride ran alright down the field he can get a race at a flatter track. Dispour was the second leg of the double who bolted up by 12 lengths. This was the first start for Dispour under Dan Skelton's care. I reckon they will turn him out under a penalty soon. There was one race to note at Bath, it was the 2 mile handicap. The race went to Havisham who just held off Snowy Dawn by a half length with Fitzwilly a short head back in third. These three horses were fourteen lengths clear of the remainder of the field. There was a treble at Beverly for David O'Meara and Jockey Daniel Tudhope. The three horses were First Bombardment , Rousayan and All you.
At Kempton, a nice jumps card. The three mile handicap chase featured some old favourites. The race went to one such horse Bob Tucker who saw off Ballyheigue Bay by 7 lengths and 4 lengths to a slightly improved Opening Batsman. The 2 miles 2 furlong handicap chase which was another strike for the old guard as Dunraven Storm bolted up. Dunraven storm jumped superbly, seeing off Turn Over Sivola and Un Beau Roman. I thought Turn Over Sivola showed enough that he might pick up a summer handicap over fences. The amateur handicap hurdle went the way of Harry Fry as his Brotherly Company ran out a good winner. I think this horse can win again. There was nothing to note at Windsor. The card at Down Royal staged a jumps fixture . The beginners chase went in very good style to Hurricane Darwin who traveled and jumped very well throughout this horse can progress. I thought Mick Thonic ran well in behind , however As de Ferbert may have to wait for a handicap if Gordon Elliott is to get his head in front. The Daily Mirror handicap chase went to Miteball Forluck who won this really well for Arthur Moore ,I reckon there is another race in this horse. Elegant Statesman ran like he needed the run , I think he is one to keep an eye on.
Tuesday, we start at Brighton where there was a double for trainer John Spearing and jockey Luke Morris with Hawk Moth and Whitecrest. At Fakenham the selling hurdle went to the veteran Kudu Country who won by a head. At Sedgefield, Discoverie won for the second time in a week bolting up by 5 lengths. Discoverie was winning for the fourth time out of the last five races. Discoverie will be worth following till he gets turned over. At Catterick the Fillies Novice race went to, Clem Fandango by 4 lengths who was another winner for Keith Dalgleish his horses continue to run excellent. The Exeter card was pretty decent. The maiden hurdle went Moabit for Paul Nicholls who ran on very well to win by 6 lengths. The mares novice hurdle went to Morning Herald who mastered Avispa late on. Morning Herald if she can jump better could progress , she travels like a very nice horse. The 2 miles 7 furlongs handicap hurdle went to The Tourad Man who won by 9 lengths from Rolling Maul . The Tourad man was a very decent looking prospect in his younger days, it was a great effort by Alan King to bring him back. The 2 miles 3 furlongs handicap chase went to Gone Too far won well by 4 and a half lengths from Such A Legend. The disappointment of the race was Vesperal dream who may have needed the run , he is one to watch in the coming weeks. The card at Ballinrobe started off with a maiden hurdle which went to former high class bumper horse Livelovelaugh who won the maiden hurdle. Livelovelaugh won by 8 lengths he traveled superbly throughout , he could be a good horse over hurdles. The conditions hurdle went in incredibly impressive fashion to Fire in Soul who won by 21 lengths, this horse could make a nice horse for Willie Mullins. The beginners chase went in very good style to Peoples Park who won by 7 lengths. Peoples Park was a decent handicap hurdler and could win a few nice races over fences.
Wednesday, it was day 1 of the Chester festival. The opening five furlong race went to Copper Knight who picked them up well from not the best draw this horse could be worth following. The Chester Oaks went to Somehow who needed all Ryan Moores strength to get up to win from Moorside by a half length. The Chester Cup was as usual a difficult puzzle. Mooonrise Landing was pulled out having been found to be in season .This was a shame as this horse had a great chance. The favourite ended up being Steve Rogers who ended up 3/1 traveled well in the race but ended up a bad eleventh. The race went to No Heretic who got the better of Nakeeta by a short head , Silver Concorde ran well in third but his run style means he needs luck in running. I would not be surprised if Silver Concorde ran in the Ascot Gold Cup and ran well. The win of No Heretic advertised the skill of Jamie Spencer as a big race jockey, it also once again showed how Nicky Henderson can get a horse right for these long distance flat handicaps. The five furlongs conditions race went in really good style to Sir Maximillian, it was a winner for Kieren Fallon who rode a excellent race. Sir Maximillian had his run checked on the approach to straight Fallon got his horse balanced switched Sir Maximillian to to the outside. Sir Maximillian sprinted away to win by four lengths this was a top performance in my view.
At Newton Abbott, there was a decent jumps card. Noel Fehily sustained a bad fall , he was airlifted to hospital thankfully it is just severe bruising. The card itself saw a double for Paul Nicholls. The beginners chase went to Abidjan who won easily by 5 lengths despite getting in tight to the last fence. The totepool handicap chase was the feature it went to Paul Nicholls with Art Mauresque who is a pleasure to own I am sure. Art Mauresque was headed on the run but battled back to beat Portway Flyer by a head. The 3 miles handicap chase went to Shuil Royale for Harry Fry who beat Indian Castle by 8 lengths. I thought that Alternatif back in fourth showed signs his day may be coming. At Kelso ,Always on the Run continued his fine season to the handicap chase. The result was good news for our members who had a (2.5pt win at 2/1). Golden Investment impressed in the novices handicap hurdle for Donald McCain. At Wetherby, Mia's storm ran out a ready winner of the mares novice hurdle under Dennis O'Regan for Alan King. At Chelmsford ,Top boy won the 5 furlong handicap, he is a decent horse on turf now that he has got his head in front here Top boy could go in again soon. At Tramore ,Unic De Bersy won the 2 miles 6 furlongs chase in good style for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy. Final Gift was also an impressive winner on the card.
Thursday, we start at Chester. The 1 mile 2 furlongs handicap went to Dark Red who completed the hat trick holding off Felix De Vega and Perfect cracker . Dark Red looks progressive , a horse to be with until beaten. The Huxley stakes went to Cannock Chase who gave seven pounds and a length beating to Western Hymn. The Chester Vase was up next it went to US Army Ranger who got the better of his stablemate Port Douglas, completing a 1-2 for Aidan O'Brien. US Army Ranger stuck at it well but that's about all you could say for it. The fact remains US Army Ranger remains unbeaten, he also has completed the identical preparation that Ruler of the world followed on route to winning the 2013 Epsom Derby for the same connections. At Newton Abbott , there was a very decent handicap hurdle over 2 miles 5 furlongs it went to Starchitect who won in good style by 5 lengths from Braavos and Dadsintrouble who ran a better race then it looked having made a bad mistake three hurdles from home. The victory of Starchitect was good news for our members who were advised a (1pt each way bet at 4/1) . The 2 miles 4 furlongs handicap chase went to Handy Andy yet another winner for Colin Tizzard. At Uttoxeter the novice hurdle went to Wotzizname by 13 lengths very easily, Harry Fry looks to have another good prospect on his hands. At Carlilse the conditional jockeys handicap went to Violoniste who followed up his recent Southwell win. At Wincanton ,Thundering Home won the conditional jockeys handicap hurdle by a neck he may be able to win a similar race. The mares novice hurdle went to Lady Presephone by 11 lengths for Alan King who has been among the winners recently. At Clonmel there was a winner each for Dermot Weld and Aidan O'Brien with Simmanka and Birthplace. Cliff House won the 2 mile handicap, I thought The Brock Inn looked unlucky in third wherever he pitches up next time I will be backing him.
Friday,at Chester the Ormonde stakes went Dartmouth a winner for her majesty The Queen . Dartmouth got a very good tactical ride from Ryan Moore who dictated the pace from the front holding Wicklow Brave off by a neck. Father Christmas was a little disappointing in fifth but may come on for the run considerably. There was nothing of note at Lingfield. At Market Rasen the Racing UK handicap chase went to No No Mac who was an impressive winner by 9 lengths , Benenden was very well backed 7/1 overnight to 9/4 on the day he is one to watch on his next few runs. At Ascot there was a decent flat card Argent Knight won the 2 mille handicap for Keith Dalgleish in a thrilling finish just holding off the desperate late lunge of Seaside Sizzler. The Montfort Handicap over 6 furlongs went to Muir lodge in a cracking race holding off Flowers on Venus by a half length. Shipyard was back in third (1pt each way advised to our members at 16/1). Shore Step ran well in fourth. The front four horses in this race are all of interest going forward. At Nottingham there was a double for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore. The two horses were Poet's word who won the maiden in good style, the 1 mile 2 furlong handicap went to Shabbah who dictated from the front another very good ride from Ryan Moore.
At Ripon the 2 year old Auction race went in very good style to Katrine who was yet another juvenile winner for Mark Johnston by 2 lengths from Who Told Jo Jo. The 2 mile handicap finally saw Jan Smuts get his turn by a head under the impressive young Hollie Doyle. Jan Smuts was runner 8 times last season. The theme of horses getting the turn in a winners enclosure continued in Cork. Seeyouallincoppers won the 2 miles 4 furlongs handicap hurdle, it was good news for our members who had a (1pt each way at 4/1). Seeyouallincoppers can go on from here, Il Feneomeno showed a return to form in second and may get a race in the coming weeks on decent ground. The bumper went to the consistent Glendine River who finally got in front. There was a major eye catcher here in Jelan who is a full sister to the brilliant Jezki. I think with a smoother and clearer passage Jelan would have won, she should have little difficulty winning a bumper. At Downpatrick Shake it up, ran out a good winner in the end for Jim Dreaper and Jamie Codd. a young horse he could have a future
Saturday, we start at Ascot where there was a treble for William Buick. The first leg was Reach High who won the Novice Stakes for two year old's by a nose from Harry Angel who ran on really well. The second leg was the Buckhounds listed stakes which saw Elite Army hold Scotland off by a head in a driving finish. The treble for Buick was landed on board Nigel Tinkler's Normandy Barriere by 3 parts of a length landing some nice bets in the process (7/1 - 4/1). At Haydock it was Swinton hurdle day. The big race itself went to Gwafa who again boosted the form of Altior . Gwafa travelled well in behind the leaders quickening away well to win by a length and a quarter from All Set to Go . Ch'tbello who had won the Scottish champion hurdle last time out was third, John Constable was fourth and could be well handicapped. Wait For Me was let down by his jumping, if he can improve his jumping he can win a big hurdles race as he has a massive engine. The Pertemps long distance handicap hurdle went to Whataknight for Harry Fry who was a comfortable winner by 5 lengths, Dell ' Arca ran well in fourth his day is coming. The flat section of the card saw a double for David O'Meara with So Beloved and Don't touch both winning. At Lingfield it was Derby and Oaks trial day. The Oaks trial was won by Seventh Heaven for Aidan O'Brien by a neck from Architecture. The Derby Trial went to Humphrey Bogart by a half length from Carntop. I don't think these two trials will have much bearing on the Epsom classics, however they are nice prizes to win nevertheless.
At Hexham the great run of Beyondtemptation came to an end as she finished second to Bop Along in the 2 miles 7 furlongs hurdle. I reckon when Beyondtemptation drops back in trip she will be of interest again. The 2 mile handicap hurdle saw Desert Island Dusk see off warm favourite Ash Park, Miss Joeking ran well in third. At Nottingham there was a double for Harry Bentley with Mustllib and Shackled N Drawn. There was nothing of note at Thirsk. The same could not be said of Warwick where there was a double for Nicky Henderson with Stowaway magic and Nesterenko , also giving Nico De Boinville a double. There was two other interesting winners El Bandit won the handicap hurdle for Paul Nicholls by 23 lengths , this looks a smart horse for this time of the year. The 2 miles 4 furlongs novice chase was a hot race for the time of the year. The race went to Virgillo who had been a decent hurdler, who has transferred that ability to fences trouncing his rivals by 13 lengths. Dan Skelton will know he has a live horse on his hands, he will be expertly campaigned Virgillo could be very good in my view. Wexford had a very average flat card Credit the Giver won for Aidan O'Brien to continue his fine run ,however Ardmore had to be considered a very unlucky loser having lost 12 to 15 lengths at the start , Ardmore was eventually beaten less then 3 lengths in fourth.
Sunday,we start at Leopardstown . The 1,000 Guineas trial went to Now or Never under Kieren Fallon for up and coming trainer Michael O'Callaghan. I liked the way Now or Never went about the job here she is a player for the Irish 1,000 Guineas. The Derrinstown Derby trial was a decent race. It went to Moonlight Magic from the Cooolmore pair Shogun and Idaho. I have always liked Moonlight Magic, I hope they send him to Epsom. The victory of Moonlight Magic was good news for our members who had a (1pt each way bet at 8/1). At Limerick Billy's hope deservedly got her head in front for Jessica Harrington winning by 6 lengths in the mares hurdle. The Mares chase went to Liam Cusack's Who's That ,who got the better of Punchestown Festival winner Definite Ruby by a half length. At Plumpton there was a double for trainer Johnny Farrelly with Drive on Locky and Molly Oscar. At Ludlow, Red Tornado completed a hat trick for Dan Skelton. The Ink Master and Midnight Tour gave Richard Johnson a double who has set out to defend his champion jockey title in business like manner.
