The Racing Week That Was 7/10/18


Monday, we start at Newton Abbot. There was a double for Richard Johnson on board Motueka and On Demand. There was a good start to the month for our members as Green Or Black took the opener on the card. Green Or Black was advised to our members (2.5pts win) at 2/1. At Bath, there was a double for Silvestre De Sousa on board Themaxwecan and Michaels Choice. At Kempton, Sir Michael Stoute took the feature race with Qaroun. At Catterick, there was a double for Simon Crisford with Ghost Queen and Smart Champion. At Roscommon, there was a double for Noel Meade with Clara Sorento and Lord In Red.


Tuesday, we start at Naas. There was a double for Aidan O'Brien with Norway and Fightfortheroses. The win for Fightfortheroses was the first leg of a double for Donnacha O'Brien which was completed by Perfect Tapatino. The win for Perfect Tapatino was good news for our members. Perfect Tapatino was advised to our members(1pt each way) at 9/2. At Sedgefield, there was a double for Donald McCain and Brian Hughes with Sonic and Dear Sire. At Southwell, there was a successful raid for Denis Hogan with Benny In Milan. At Kempton, Keltie was on target for John Gosden. At Ayr, Richard Fahey had a double with Billy Bond and Firewater.


Wednesday, we start with the news Sea Of Class has been added to Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe field at a cost of 120,000 euro. On the track, it is Nottingham first up. There was a double for Oisin Murphy with Belated Breath and Maygold. At Salisbury, it was the last meeting of the year. Equimou ran out an excellent winner of the finale. Three Little Birds advised to our members(1pt each way) at 9/1 placed in the race. At Cork, there was a double for Johnny Murtagh with So Familiar and Shore Step. Our members were left frustrated as Kevin Manning didn't have his finest hour on Fuiwart who was second to Shore Step beaten a nose. Fuiwart advised to our members(1pt each way) at 10/1. 0.5pt each way double advised to our members Fuiwart 310 Cork 10/1 Three Little Birds 525 Salisbury 9/1 both placed a good day nonetheless. At Bangor, Donald McCain and Brian Hughes were on target again this week with Val Mome. At Newcastle, there was a double for Joe Fanning with Madam Devious and Sun Hat.


Thursday, we start with the news that. Cracksman is set to bring the curtain down on his racing career by defending his crown in the Qipco Champion Stakes after being ruled out of Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. On the track, we start at Warwick. There was a treble for Richard Johnson with General Custard, Trixster and Canton Prince. At Huntingdon, I was impressed with McGroarty who won by fifteen lengths for Dr. Richard Newland. At Lingfield, there was a double for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni with Contrive and Wilbury Twist. At Chelmsford, I was impressed with Accommodate for Sir Michael Stoute who win with plenty in hand. At Clonmel, there was a double for Willie Mullins with Shush and Northern Belle. The novice hurdle went to Kuiper Belt for Gordon Elliott, gaining compensation for a harsh disqualification last time out at Listowel. Kuiper Belt advised to our members(2.5pts win) at 7/4


Friday, we start at Ascot. The one-mile six-furlong listed race went to Ghostwatch for Godolphin. At Fontwell, Sizing Tennessee deservedly got his head in front for Colin Tizzard. At Hexham, there was a double for Gordon Elliott and Richard Johnson with Isle Of Destiny and Jaunty Thor. At Wolverhampton, there was a very impressive win for Trolius for Simon Crisford. At Gowran, there was a double for Willie Mullins with Good Thyne Tara and Yukon Lil. The handicap hurdle went to The King Of Brega. Gold Seal advised to our members(1pt each way) at 5/1 placed in the race. At Dundalk, No Needs Never took the feature race for Joseph O'Brien. The finale went to Commander Won. Nimitz advised to our members(1pt each way) at 7/2 placed in the race. It completed a decent day for our members 0.5pt each way double advised to our members Gold Seal 415 Gowran 5/1 Nimitz 900 Dundalk 7/2 both placed.


Saturday, we start at Ascot. The feature race went to Jamie Osborne with Raising Sand. That victory was to form part of a double for jockey Nicola Currie completed by Erissimus Maximus . At Newmarket, Laurens chalked up her fifth Group One triumph as she claimed the Sun Chariot from the front. Laurens was advised to our members(1pt each way) at 7/2. At Redcar, the two-year-old trophy went to Summer Daydream for Keith Dalgleish. At Wolverhampton, Major Partnership won in good style for Godolphin. At Fontwell, Richard Johnson continued his great run with another double. The two winners were Earth Moor and Beautiful People. At Gowran, Robbie Power and Woodland Opera put in a performance befitting the PWC Champion Chase's name, and Grade Two status, when hammering their Gowran Park rivals by ten lengths and more. There was a double for Gordon Elliott with Chief Justice and Cecil Corbett.


Sunday, we start at Longchamp. The UK raiders enjoyed a day to remember with five winners on the card. There was a double for Godolphin as Royal Marine and Wild Illusion continuing a great season for the boys in blue. Mabs Cross took the Abbaye gaining compensation for the narrow defeat in the Nunthorpe. The Prix De La Foret went to One Master for William Haggas. Enable repelled the late charge of Sea Of Class to successfully defend her crown in a sensational running of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. This was a tremendous horse race. A brilliant training performance by John Gosden to get Enable back here to win. Sea Of Class lost nothing in defeat from a wide draw and with a better draw probably would have won. Take nothing away from Enable and Frankie Dettori who was at his brilliant best. Waldgeist advised to our members(0.75pt each way) at 7/1 placed in the race.

At TipperaryDermot Weld won the Coolmore Stud Home Of Champions Concorde Stakes for the eighth time since the race was moved to Tipperary in the 90’s as Yulong Gold Fairy took an exciting renewal of the Group 3 event. Bedrock, trained in Scotland by Iain Jardine, made a successful raid at Tipperary when landing the Horse & Jockey Hotel Hurdle in fine style. Quick Grabim was a very good winner of the Joe Mac novice hurdle. Quick Grabim advised to our members(3pts win) at 6/4.  The victory for Quick Grabim formed a double for Willie Mullins completed by Royal Rendezvous. I was really impressed with Le Richebourg who took the novice chase by seven lengths.

At Uttoxeter, there was a successful chase debut for Lil Rockerfeller who could have a good season over fences if he translates his hurdles ability to fences. There was a double for Dan and Harry Skelton with Anytime Will Do and NotwhatIam. At Kelso, the class 2 Handicap chase went in good style to Nuts Well under Brian Hughes.
