The Racing Week That Was 25/12/16


Monday, we start at Ayr where the ground was very testing. There was a winner for Dr Richard Newland and Daryl Jacob with Capitoul in the maiden hurdle. Big River made it three wins from his last four runs with a resounding eleven length victory for Tom Scudamore and Lucinda Russell. At Hereford, there was a double for Rebecca Curtis with Mystical Knight and Just a Thought. There was a really good performance from Finian's Oscar for Colin Tizzard and Tom O'Brien. The two mile handicap hurdle witnessed a cracking finish between The Gipper , St Saviour and Stamp Your Feet who came with a wet sail late on to win. Stamp Your Feet looked booked for fourth at best jumping the last got up in remarkable fashion under Adrian Heskin. Stamp Your Feet was advised to our members at 2pts win (5/1). At Chelmsford, it was ladies first with winners for Hollie Doyle on board Kenstone and Shelley Birkett on board Candesta.


Tuesday, we start at Taunton. The big yards in the area had plenty of winners on the day. Volpone Jelois won the juvenile hurdle for Paul Nicholls winning by a neck from Casper King. I reckon this was a decent race , the front three home look decent horses. The division 2 of the maiden hurdle saw a very good race with Asum for Dan Skelton seeing off Amour De Nuit for Paul Nicholls by a length. The Class 3 handicap hurdle saw Hint Of Mint come out on top in a thrilling finish with Man Of Plenty. Hint Of Mint landed hefty market support from (7/4 overnight to 8/11 at the off). Hint Of Mint was advised to our members 2pts win at (6/4). At Kempton, there was a double for jockey Liam Keniry with Zabeel Star and Stand Guard. At Southwell, there was a treble for trainer Mick Appleby with Mithqaal , Western Prince and Come Back King all went off favourite hopefully a few close to the yard had the trixie!!


Wednesday, we start at Ludlow where there was a treble for Nicky Henderson with River Wylde, Kilcrea Vale and Top Ville Ben. The feature race saw Richard Johnson steer Fox Appeal to a first win in more than two years in the Tanners Champagne Handicap Chase at Ludlow. Fox Appeal did it well seeing Calett Mad off by 5 lengths. I thought Richard Johnson gave the horse a great ride filling the horse with confidence. At Ffos Las, there was a double for Nigel Twiston -Davies and talented young claimer Tom Humphries with Ballymalin and Robinshill. It gave Nigel Twiston -Davies an across the card treble following Colin's Brother at Ludlow. At Newcastle, there was a double for trainer Kevin Ryan with Flaming Spear and Distant Past.


Thursday, we start at Bangor the long distance chase saw Andrew Thornton edge closer to the 1,000 winner mark as Barton Gift took the three miles five furlongs handicap chase. Andrew Thornton is now on 998 winners hopefully he passes the 1,000 winner mark over Christmas. There was a double for Henry Daly and Richard Johnson with Miss Mash and Back To The Thatch. The race with Back To The Thatch saw that horse prevail by a neck from Scotchtown  who ran a cracker under a penalty. The pair were ten lengths clear of the the third horse Follow The Bear. At Chelmsford, Jim Crowley made his first ride for his new boss Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum a winning one when steering Naseem home at Chelmsford. The champion jockey, who replaced Paul Hanagan as Sheikh Hamdan's retained rider last month, enjoyed a smooth success on the son of Sea The Stars in the Weatherbys Racing Diaries Maiden Stakes. At Wolverhampton , there was a double for jockey Tom Eaves with Arize and Maifalki.


Friday, we start at Dundalk which was the only racing on. There was a treble for Wayne Lordan on board A Shin Impala, Thunder Speed and Song Of Love. There was a double for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane with A November Tale and The Paris Shrug.
