The Racing Week That Was 23/12/15

Thursday, we start at Exeter. The day started with Jessber's dream who backed up her win at Lingfield under a winners penalty in comfortable fashion, Jessber's dream was the first leg of a double for Harry Fry who continues to be in great form. The second leg of the double was Bitofapuzzle was a top mares hurdler last season this was Bitofapuzzles first run over fences she did it very well,it will be interesting to see how she goes from here. The rest of the card was not much to write home about. At Towcester there was a couple of interesting races. Que Sera landed a bit of a punt for Philip Hobbs 9/2 to 11/4, Que Sera stuck on well having jinked 3 out badly. Ballyegan landed the money for our members at 6/1 having jumped beautifully and stayed on really well. Ballyegan looks one to be with again at a trip of  2mile 4 furlongs on soft ground.

Friday, we start at Ascot. The Supreme novice hurdle trial went to Yanworth in good style beating Charbel who was a very decent bumper horse as well. Yanworth was fourth in last seasons champion bumper a race which has worked out really well. The novice chase went to Le Mercurey in fortunate manner , Amore Alato had the race in the bag when falling at the last fence. At Uttoxeter there were three recent winners looking to follow up they all won , Hollywood all star by 10 Lengths, Truckers Highway by 15 Lengths and Baywing by 14 Lengths comfortable wins for all of them these three horses are of interest going forward. At Dundalk there was a double for Aidan O' Brien.

Saturday we start at Fairyhouse where Willie Mullins unleashed a battalion of horses with real potential. Killutagh Vic won the 2 mile beginners chase in spectacular fashion, jumping really well Killutagh Vic looks the real deal having won in tenacious fashion at last years Cheltenham festival. Roi Des Francs took the second race in very good style and will now be aimed at the four miler at Cheltenham apparently. Allblak Des Places won the 3 year old hurdle beating Outspoken who if he had jumped a little better may well have won. Gangster completed the Willie Mullins four timer winning by 10 lengths in the grade 3 novice hurdle over three miles .Willie Mullins should have had a five timer as Au Quart De Tour came down at the last when looking the very likely winner. It was a frightening day for the opposing trainers as it once again illustrated the abundance of riches enjoyed by Willie Mullins and his owners.

Ascot staged what is always a super card. Mon Successeur won the Handicap chase he deserved his turn and now that he has got his head in front can maybe run up a sequence. The Long Walk hurdle looked a good race on paper. The race went to Thistlecrack who was really brilliant here travelling supremely well and jumping beautifully putting the race to bed in a matter of strides. Reve De Sivola ran a gallant race going for a fourth successive win in the contest. The flop of the race was Saphir Du Rheu who drifted alarmingly in the betting he may have been feeling his Hennessy Gold Cup exertions but he was never a factor here. Saphir Du Rheu does have questions to answer now and heads off for a breathing operation. Thistlecrack deserves to be favorite for the World hurdle now he looks very solid its not the most talented division but Thistlecrack  certainly has an abundance of talent. The Ascot Silver Cup was a cracking race it was a great race for our members who were on the winner at 12/1 ,Wakanda who jumped superbly and fought off all comers from the front in very brave fashion. Wakanda is rapidly turning into a favorite of mine I have backed him every time this season , Wakanda  unbelievably remains underestimated by bookmakers and punters alike, Wakanda  could be a Grand National horse one day.The form looks solid as Virak  second to Wakanda  at Newcastle was second again to Wakanda here. Fingal Bay and The Young Master ran well , Salubrious traveled well and faded , I think 2 and a half miles will suit Salubrious better.

The Ladbroke hurdle was a tremendous horse race it ended up being a dead heat between  Jolly's cracked it and Sternrubin. The pace was blistering with Sternrubin setting a ferocious gallop Jolly's cracked it just got in front yards from the line Sternrubin  got back up on the line and neither deserved to lose in truth. Rennetti ran on from the back and has a big handicap in him. Some Plan was much better here and Paul Nicholls may well know what he has now. Our " Notebook horse" Devilment ran really well at a massive price Devilment needs a break from the handicapper though I reckon. The Ladbroke is a race to watch over and over and it will turn up lots of winners.

The Tommy Whittle at Haydock went to Seventh Sky who made all to win well , Spookydooky ran well and can win one of these again.

Sunday we start at Thurles .The Mares Maiden Hurdle went to Monbeg Rose for Willie Mullins looks a decent horse. Desoto County landed a punt 11/4 to 11/10 for the Gordon Elliott yard in the Horse and Jockey Handicap hurdle.  Seabass won the Novice hurdle for Ted  and Katie Walsh, Seabass  will be aimed at Aintree again . It has been the story of this jumps season some old heroes coming back to win long may it continue. There was a double for Noel Fehily at Fakenham in a moderate card. It was a good day for our members with a 9/1 and 5/1 place landing the each way singles and each way double.

Monday we start at Lingfield. It was a great day for our members Western warrior advised 3/1 (rule 4, deduction 30%) bolted up by 30 lengths. Our second selection Dormouse advised 9/2 (rule 4, deduction 10%) won by a neck we also had the each way double. Western Warrior can win again on deep ground, Dormouse loves Lingfield and his four runs at Lingfield read 1211 a very good record. At Wolverhampton there was a gamble landed on Flowers on Venus a very big horse with lots of speed and can win again.

Tuesday the day started off with the news that Coneygree is out for the season which is a real shame as Coneygree ,will now not attempt to defend his Cheltenham Gold Cup crown in March. The racing itself was moderate Clonmel got to race but only over hurdles as the chases were abandoned. Bello Conti bolted up despite drifting 1/3 to 8/13 for Willie Mullins in the maiden hurdle.  Vroum Vroum Mag won at 1/16 we learned nothing we did not know already and in truth we have no idea how good Vroum Vroum Mag is , what we do know after this is she still has four legs and a tail . Ice Cool landed some nice bets 7/2 to 9/4 in the Handicap Hurdle  and can win again in this mood.

Wednesday the cards for Leopardstown and Kempton take shape. Don Cossack will face eight rivals in the King George, Douvan will face three rivals in the Racing Post Novice chase at Leopardstown
