The Racing Week That Was 18/6/17

12-6-17

Monday, we start at Roscommon. I was in attendance myself , I was very impressed a nice track and good facilities. There were at least 25 bookmakers in attendance including as many as 8 female bookmakers which was good to see. The opening Auction maiden went in very impressive style to Painting Pictures for Jessica Harrington and Colm O'Donoghue.  Painting Pictures looked very fit in the parade ring. Band Of Outlaws looked a nice horse beforehand , the jockey lost his irons early. Band Of Outlaws can be marked up for this , however Painting Pictures won by five an a half lengths and is one to watch. I was very impressed with Jeremy's Girl in the 45-75 handicap. This horse won with any amount in hand. The Novice chase went in very good style to Townshend who jumped like a cat. Peregrine Run ran well in second . I did not think Landofhopeandglory had a cut at his fences early, he warmed up but will have to improve his jumping. The Connacht National the feature race went in good style to On Fiddlers Green for Henry De Bromhead who saw off Auvergnat and Static Jack in a race that took plenty of getting.

At Ayr, there was a double for trainer Michael Dods with My Name Is Rio and Jackontherocks. There was also a winner for Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan with Rubis. At Brighton, there was a winner for Mark Johnston and Silvestre De Sousa. At Windsor, Michael Dods made it three winners on the day as Mabs Cross won for Dods. The one mile two furlong handicap went to Hollywood Road who held of Biotic in a tight finish. Biotic was advised to our members 1pt each way at 7/2. At Pontefract , there was a double for Richard Kingscote with Miss Dd and Special Relation.

13-6-17

Tuesday, we start at Salisbury. The six furlong maiden went in impressive style to La Rav by four and a half lengths for Luca Cumani and Jamie Spencer. The five furlong handicap saw an amended result as Red Alert who passed the post first was disqualified , and Secret Agent got the race. At Yarmouth , Frankie Dettori was reported in "good spirits" after he was stood down following a fall prior to the opening race at Yarmouth. Dettori was thrown from the horse in the parade ring. On the track itself there were doubles for Ryan Moore on board Hawkerland and Moolazim. There was also a double for Andrea Atzeni on board Hermosita and Himalayan Queen. At Lingfield,  Luca Cumani picked up his second winner of the day as Pacharana won the one mile three furlong fillies handicap. At Southwell, over the jumps. There was a double for Nico De Boinville on board Polly's Pursuitand Paddy's Field. At Roscommon, I thought it was significant that the McManus  helicopter was present at the meeting. It proved so as Timiyan took the feature race for JP McManus and Gordon Elliott in a thrilling finish with Roachdale House.

14-6-17

Wednesday, we start at Haydock. There was a treble on the day for William Buick on board Ottonian, Fire Brigade and and Merlin. At Worcester,  there was a double for Richard Johnson on board Vendrei Trois and Desertmore Hill. I was also impressed with Three Star General who won for David Pipe. I think this horse stepped up in trip could be even better. At Haydock, Lugano went in for Sir Mark Prescott looking like the type of horse that will run up a sequence in typical Sir Mark style. At Leopardstown, I was really impressed with Flight Risk who took the Group 3 Oliver Brady Memorial Stakes. Kevin Manning went for a daring run up the inside got the split, however Flight Risk was good enough to take the split and bolted up. Flight Risk could be smart. There was an unfortunate incident for the Bolger team in the last. Constancio looked set to win when running out one furlong out . It was rotten luck on the young jockey Mr J P Dowling. Thankfully both horse and jockey were fine afterwards.

16-6-17

Friday, we start at Sandown which witnessed a remarkable five timer for the irresistible force that is Silvestre De Sousa. The horses were Branscombe,Falmouth Light and Dominating which gave Mark Johnston a treble. The other two legs of the De Sousa five timer were Shargiah and Call Me Grumpy , this gave Roger Varian a doubleSilvestre De Sousa is having a remarkable June. At Newton Abbott, there was a treble for Paul Nicholls with Trevisani, Bagad Bihoue and Alcala who took the feature race. There was a worrying postscript to the feature race as popular grey Cheltenham festival and Charlie Hall winner Irish Cavalier was taken away in the horse ambulance. I hope Irish Cavalier is ok a popular horse for Rebecca Curtis. At York,I was impressed with Big Country who just kept doing enough in the one mile two Furlong Handicap. Big Country could be a hard horse for the handicapper to catch up to. I also was impressed with Eartha Kitt who despite a bad start flew home in the fillies handicap. The same comments would apply to Southern Belle who was beaten a half length in second.

At Goodwood, Silvestre De Sousa made it six winners on the day as he got I'vegotthepower up by a head to win the one mile handicap. I was impressed with the 1-2 in the one mile three furlong handicap as Galactic Prince saw off Road To Dubai. At Aintree, there was a double for Aidan Coleman and Jonjo O'Neill with the infuriating Mad Jack Mytton who finally won(Of course I did not back it) and Minotaur. I thought Vintage Vinnie was superb in the three mile handicap chase winning by twenty two lengths. Vintage Vinnie could be a summer plate horse. At Chepstow, Ralph Beckett kept up his good form as Carpe Diem Lady took the seven furlong handicap. At Fairyhouse, there was a double for Kevin Manning and Jim Bolger with Sometimesadiamond and Fountain. The Jim Bolger team are flying.
