The Racing Week That Was 11/6/17


Monday, we start at Gowran there was a double for Anastasia O'Brien with Punches Pious and Music Box. At Listowel, there was a double for Jody McGarvey on board Swift and Travertine. The feature race the John J Galvin Handicap chase went to Deans Road who held off Lucky Pat by a half a length. Lucky Pat was advised to our members 1pt each way at 10/1. At Thirsk, Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan were on the mark again with Jedi Master in division 2 of the auction stakes. Ruth Carr enjoyed another winner with Meshardal in the six furlong handicap. In Newton Abbott, Alcala took the novice handicap chase for Paul Nicholls and Sam Twiston-Davies. The two mile handicap chase went to Deauville Dancer by twelve lengths for David Dennis and Aidan Coleman. At Leicester, Richard Fahey and David Dennis completed across the card doubles with  Shazzab and Kody Ridge. There was a double for Oisin Murphy with Contango and Bletchley. At Windsor, the feature race went to Stake Acclaim who under an excellent ride from Robert Winston. The key moment was Winston sticking to the rail while the rest of the field stuck to the middle of the track. At Ayr, Mark Johnston continued his fine run as Love Oasis took the Fillies handicap.


Tuesday, we start at Wetherby the ground was turned to heavy during the card. Jedi Master made it two wins in 24 hours for Richard Fahey, who made it a double on the day as Dan Troop got up late on to defeat stablemate Right Action.It worked out well for us, Dan Troop was advised to our members 1pt each way at 9/2. At Chepstow, there was a double for John Gosden in the two divisions of the one mile four furlongs maiden with Zenon and Great Sound. There was a winner for Richard Hughes with Twenty Times for former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. At Yarmouth, there was a double for Silvestre De Sousa with Swilly Sunset and Always Thankful. At Fontwell, there were winners for Paul Nicholls and Colin Tizzard with Black Corton and Tempestatefloresco respectively. At Southwell, the card was decimated by the heavy rain with lots of non runners. There was a double for Richard Johnson with Viking Mistress and Trafalgar Rock. There was also a double for Nicky Henderson and Nico De Boinville with Tell It To Me and Monbeg Legend. The day finished with the news that John Ferguson resigned his position as racing manager to Godolphin. It will bring to an end a 25 years of employment for John Ferguson from Sheikh Mohammed.


Wednesday, we start at Uttoxeter. There was another succesful Uk raid for Gavin Cromwell as Scenic Star took the novice handicap chase. At Hamilton , the course had to pass an inspection after 38mm of rain. Inexes repeated last year's success with a game performance in the Weatherbys Printing Services Handicap over six furlongs. At Wolverhampton, there was a double for Josephine Gordon with Krystaliteand Titus Secret. There was a second flat winner for the Paul and Megan Nicholls combination as Azari took the claimer. At Ripon,former Irish trained Another Batt took the five furlong novice stakes by five lengths under Silvestre De Sousa.At Wexford, there was very heavy rain which led to a lot of non runners. There was a winner for Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins as Coquin Mans took the Vinegar Hill hurdle. The Carrickbyrne novice chase went in facile fashion to Bentelimar who took the race by fifteen lengths from Dicosimo.


Thursday, we start at Leopardstown . I was really impressed with the debut of September who took the fillies maiden by five and a half lengths. September looks a really good prospect. Brendan Bracken took the Glencairn listed stakes by three and a half lengths for Ger Lyons. There was a double for Jessica Harrington and Colm O'Donoghue with Grandde who took the King George V Cup and Hyperdrive who took the concluding handicap. Jessica Harrington has now had 21 winners on the flat already this season. There was a dead heat in the apprentice handicap between Settle For Red and Snoozing Indian.

At Ripon, Collingham Park took the Novice stakes under Graham Lee. At Haydock, there was a double for Silvestre De Sousa with Brimham Rocks and Rubems Dream. At Bangor, Tome George and Adrian Heskin took the maiden hurdle with Get Rhythm. At Sandown, there was a double for trainer Joseph Tuite and Oisin Murphy with Surrey Hope and Looks A Million. At Carlilse, there was a double for trainer Michael Dods with Reinforced and Archi's Affair.


Friday, we start at Wolverhampton the well backed Dandilion took the division 2 of the five furlong handicap.At Brighton, Jim Crowley was on the mark with Quloob who took the one mile three furlongs handicap by eight lengths. At Clonmel , there was a treble for Davy Russell with Dawn In The Park, Just Janice and Sea Light. At Carlilse, Keith Dalgleish was on the mark with Kensington Star who took the one mile six furlong handicap. I would mark Kensington Star up for this effort as there was trouble in running. I think Kensington Star can win again soon. At Goodwood, Jim Crowley had a treble on the night  and made it four winners on the day. The victories at Goodwood came on board, Coral Sea, White Chocolate and Tuff Rock. At Haydock, the listed Achilles Stakes went to Final Venture with Oisin Murphy on board. Monsieur Joe is one to watch in fourth if testing ground continues to prevail. At Stratford it was the hunter chase evening, The Pertemps Stratford Champion hunters chase, went to Young Hurricane . It was an odd race Wonderful Charm did not jump well , seeming disinterested throughout. Wonderful Charm then finished like a train however could not get to Young Hurricane or second place Balnaslow.


Saturday, we start at Haydock. There were two Group 3 races. The first one the Pinnacle Stakes for Fillies went to Bateel who saw off Dubka by a length and a half. The other Group 3 the John Of Gaunt Stakes went to Absolutely So who got the better of Jallota by a half length. At Newmarket, it was a tremendous day for Godolphin who had the first four winners on the card Glorious Journey, Folk Tale and Culturati. Those three horses formed a treble for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. The fourth Godolphin winner went to John Gosden and Martin Dwyer. At Chester, there was a double for Richard Fahey and Adam McNamara with Starlight Romance and Megan Lily both horses getting up in tight finishes. Megan Lily was advised to our members 1pt each way at 9/2. At Catterick, there was a double for Tony Hamilton with Lackaday and Collodi.

At Beverley, Richard Fahey got a third winner on the day with Navarone. There was two conditions stakes races on the card. The first one went to Cardsharp who took the Brian Yeardley two year old trophy for Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning. The other conditions race went to Chica La Habana by three parts of a length from Maggies Angel. Robert Cowell confirmed Royal Ascot is the plan for  Chica La Habana. At the Curragh, there was a very impressive debut for Verbal Dexterity who won the maiden by nine and a half lengths. There was a double for Johnny Murtagh with Too Familiar and Khuda who won by twelve lengths. The €50K handicap went in good style to Son Of Rest who loves soft ground. At Chepstow, the weather was horrific. There was a winner for Richard Hannon and Hollie Doyle with Straight Ash. At Stratford, there was a double for jockey Sean Bowen on board Forever My Friend and Dream Bolt.


Sunday, we start at the Curragh Jim Bolger continued his excellent form. There was a double on the card for Bolger and Kevin Manning with Strike For Freedom and Glamarous Approach. The fillies handicap went the way of Duchess Of France who saw off the strong travelling Tobacco Bay by two and three parts of a length. Dragon Fei who is in foal to Dandy Man bolted up in the one mile two furlong handicap by four and a half lengths. Dragon Fei could run on Thursday at Leopardstown. At Goodwood, the Maywal handicap run over two miles went the way of Imperial Cup winner London Prize winning by eight lengths from Medburn Cutler. At Nottingham , there was a double for Andrea Atzeni with Incus and Jumira Prince. At Auteuil,L'Ami Serge came from last to first to snatch Grade One honours in the Grande Course de Haies d'Auteuil (French Champion Hurdle). This was a great performance by trainer Nicky Henderson as ,L'Ami Serge has been called lots of names. The ride Daryl Jacob gave ,L'Ami Serge was out of the top drawer.
