I do this feature from time to time. There were a few horses that caught my eye over Christmas who I will highlight here.
The handicap hurdle over two miles run at Leopardstown on 27-12-16, gives us two horses.
After Rain has always been thought capable of winning a decent handicap. The winner of the two mile handicap hurdle at Leopardstown on 27-12-16 That's A Wrap has been on a real role. The eye could not help but be drawn to After Rain running very well in third beaten one and a quarter lengths. After Rain went off favourite for the Coral Handicap hurdle at Leopardstown last season. The same race again looks a logical target again on January 22nd.
The same two mile handicap hurdle at Leopardstown on 27-12-16 that After Rain ran in gives us our second horse Gladiator King. I have been convinced for for some time now that Gladiator King is being prepared for a handicap hurdle. I thought the run of Gladiator King at Fairyhouse on 4-12-16 was far better then the final result. Gladiator King confirmed that view when running in fifth place behind That's A Wrap at Leopardstown on 27-12-16. I think Gladiator King is another with potential to run in the Coral Hurdle on January 22nd. If Gladiator King does make the cut for the Coral Hurdle. Gladiator King should be watched on his next three starts if the money arrives for Gladiator King back him.
Presenting Percy is a horse with a lot of ability.Presenting Percy was not far off the top bumper horses having good form with Battleford and Blow By Blow. Presenting Percy has made a really good start over hurdles winning two hurdles races already. The race at Leopardstown on 28-12-16 of major interest to me was the Pertemps qualifier which went to Electric Concorde for Jim Culloty and David Mullins. The horse who went into my notebook was Presenting Percy who finished fifth under Davey Russell. The exact same trainer , owner and jockey combination won the final of the Pertemps at Cheltenham last season with Mall Dini. I will be keeping a very close eye on Presenting Percy in the final this year. I expect Presenting Percy to follow a similar path to Mall Dini . In my view Presenting Percy would be a must for the Pertemps final shortlist at Cheltenham in March.
